Chantal & Ruben

Palmiet Valley Estate, Paarl | Wedding of Chantal & Ruben ~ 14 Dec 2013

Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-55Around 60km outside of Cape Town lies the picturesque Palmiet Valley Estate, the location for this amazing wedding. An absolute stunning venue, this Cape winelands 300 year old farm located in the beautiful Paarl Valley, provided the perfect scenery for a majestic wedding day.

Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-1Whenever I arrive at a venue, my first step is always to wander around and scout out possible photo locations even if I’ve been there before. However, this mesmerizing scenery had me so captivated, that after a few minutes I simply gave up scouting and ended up sitting quietly under a tree just taking in the peaceful surroundings. It’s at times like these I’m very grateful for a chance to experience a nice quiet moment at a wedding, which doesn’t happen very often in my line of work. And even more grateful to see the heavens declaring the glory of God… It simply was a stunning venue!

A week before the wedding day, I had shot this lovely couple’s engagement photos on Signal Hill & Camps Bay, where we had a little bit of rain, but in the end the weather turned for the better and worked out perfectly. On the day of the wedding however, weather was not going to be a factor, as we had simply magnificent sunshine with a very slight breeze in the air. Somehow, I just knew the day would turn out brilliantly. And with the help of my second photographer, Dellmaine Julius, I did not have to be in two places at the same time.

And as I watched this love story unfold, it gave me great pleasure to know that I had played a part in it. Although the years may go by, and your memories of me may fade away, I’ll always know that the memories I’ve captured of your special day will forever be treasured. This to me is a very humbling thought.

Chantal & Ruben, it was an absolute pleasure photographing your wedding. The two of you are an inspiration, and have blessed me with an amazing experience of sharing this day with you. I must give you a big thanks for being so enthusiastic in the hot sunshine throughout the day. 🙂

So to you I offer these words of wisdom, that I’m sure you are familiar with…

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.Love never fails…

I hope you love the memories, as much I loved photographing them…

Loving the Light…

Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-9Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-10Some of my favorite moments are when I get to photograph the bride getting ready. There’s always nervous and excited tension in the air, as the time draws nearer.Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-17

Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-38 Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-39 Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-40 Chantal_Ruben_Wedding-41I loved this moment! Usually, the bride is escorted down the aisle, and the father would give her away to the groom. However, when the Chantal arrived to walk down the aisle, she was greeted by an extremely excited Ruben who came charging down the aisle to collect his bride. The underground wine cellar made for a perfect setting for the reception. And what a wonderful idea having the Candy station for guests to grab a sweet or two. I loved the presentation, which included a theatrical opening of the candy station. It’s small touches like this that makes a wedding very memorable…

These were the wise words I found placed on the table…  It certainly was food for thought, and helped to set the mood for the guests. I noticed couples all around with a twinkle in their eyes, holding hands and sitting just a little bit closer to one another than usual. Wedding ceremonies have a way of reminding people about their own special day, and that marriages are special and relationships should be celebrated because we all have such limited time.
